Dulens AMP31B-EF APO Mini Prime 31 T2.4 EF Mnt Color: Black
Dulens AMP31B-EF APO Mini Prime 31 T2.4 EF Mnt Color: Black | A fixed prime for planned cinema framing
A zoom lets you change framing from the camera; a prime asks you to choose the frame and position the camera for it. The Dulens AMP31B-EF is a cinema lens with a fixed 31 mm focal length, suited to filmmakers who want a consistent view between takes and setups. Its EF mount makes it relevant to rigs built around EF-mount equipment. I’d consider it for interviews, staged dialogue and other scenes where camera placement can be planned rather than adjusted on the fly. The APO Mini Prime name identifies the lens, while the black finish keeps its appearance understated on a rig. This is a focused tool for deliberate framing: useful when you value a repeatable focal length, less convenient when you need to reframe quickly without moving the camera.
Specialist Note
On a locked-off interview setup, I’d start by marking a 31 mm frame, then place the camera to suit the room and subject. For a scene where light is limited, opening to T2.4 gives you a clear exposure setting to work from; I’d adjust from there as the lighting allows. It also makes sense for staged dialogue, where you can set camera marks and keep the framing consistent across takes. The honest trade-off is that this fixed prime can’t change its framing from the camera position, so it suits a planned setup better than fast, spontaneous reframing. I like that direct, disciplined approach for controlled scenes.
