Ilford Fine Art Smooth Pearl gives you a named surface and a clear A2 format to work with: each sheet measures 420 × 594 mm, and the pack contains 25 sheets. It’s for photographers and printmakers looking for photo paper in a large sheet size, with “Smooth Pearl” as the finish specified in the product name. That makes it a considered option for fine art printing when you’ve already settled on this format and surface. The honest point is that a paper name alone can’t tell you how a particular image will look on it; the image, print settings and your own taste all play a part. If you’re comparing papers, use the stated finish and dimensions as your starting point rather than assuming every pearl surface looks the same.

Choosing the format

A2 is a substantial print size, so it’s worth thinking about the finished image before you prepare the file. The sheet measures 420 × 594 mm; your image can use the full area or leave room around it, depending on how you intend to present the print. Those are layout decisions, not extra properties of the paper. The 25-sheet quantity gives you a defined amount to plan a print session around, or to keep on hand for projects using the same paper. It can also help when you’re deciding how many prints to prepare: count the sheets against the work you actually want to make, rather than ordering by an assumed pack size. Look at the words “Fine Art Smooth Pearl” when comparing product names, and choose it because that’s the surface description you want to try. For a first print, making a small test layout on screen can help you judge image placement before committing to the A2 sheet.

Technical Specifications

Paper name: Fine Art Smooth Pearl

Paper size: A2

Dimensions: 420 × 594 mm

Quantity: 25 sheets
