rycote-18cm-me66-sgm-foam-windjammer
Rycote 18cm ME66 SGM Foam & Windjammer

Rycote 18cm ME66 SGM Foam & Windjammer | Wind protection for ME66 SGM microphones

The distinguishing detail here is the specific 18 cm format, rather than a one-size-fits-all microphone cover. This Rycote wind protection accessory is identified for the ME66 SGM, giving you a clear reference when choosing a cover for that microphone. It suits sound recordists and video makers who need to manage wind noise while recording speech outdoors or in other breezy locations. The product name specifies both foam and a windjammer, so it’s intended as wind protection rather than as a way to change the microphone’s sound for creative effect. For interviews, documentary work or location dialogue, controlling wind at the microphone can help keep speech more usable in the recording. The 18 cm measurement is a practical sizing detail, but the named microphone reference matters too: use both when deciding if this is the right Rycote accessory for your setup. It’s a focused piece of kit for a particular microphone, not a general-purpose audio accessory.

Specialist Note

A common mistake with microphone wind protection is choosing by length alone; the ME66 SGM reference here gives you a more specific starting point. The foam and windjammer wording also tells you what kind of protection this is: a cover intended to help manage wind during recording, not a device that removes noise after the fact. For outdoor interviews or spoken location audio, use it on the microphone while recording and keep the mic aimed toward the speaker, with the wind coming from behind you where practical. That can help reduce direct wind across the mic. It’s a specialised match, so I’d keep the ME66 SGM designation in mind rather than treating it as a universal cover. Strong gusts can still be a challenge.

Technical Specifications

Brand: Rycote

Length: 18 cm

Microphone reference: ME66 SGM

Type: Foam & Windjammer
