It suits cinematographers and photographers who want to manage reflections deliberately in a composed shot, rather than reach for a filter to create a general change in exposure or color. On water or glass, a polarizer can reduce reflected glare; with foliage, it can help tame shiny highlights so the leaves’ color reads more clearly. You adjust the effect by changing the filter’s orientation and watching the reflection in the frame. The amount of change depends on the subject, light and camera angle, so the result isn’t identical from scene to scene. This is most useful when reflections are part of the image you’re trying to control, and when the rest of your setup is already designed for 4x4 filters. It’s a focused tool for that job, not a general-purpose look filter.

Specialist Note

The Schneider-Kreuznach MPTV HLYWD BLK Magic 2 4x4 is best at giving you control over reflections in a framed shot. I’d consider it when glare on glass or water is distracting: adjust the filter’s orientation while watching the reflected area, and stop when the detail you want becomes clearer. Its polarizing function is for managing reflected light; it won’t give the same result at every camera angle, so a change in viewpoint can change the effect. The 4x4 format makes it a sensible option when your existing filter workflow is built around that size. If you don’t use a 4x4 setup, the format may not suit your workflow.

Technical Specifications

Brand: Schneider-Kreuznach

Product type: Polarizing filter

Format: 4x4

Model: MPTV HLYWD BLK Magic 2
