Nikon HK-40 Lens Hood For AF-S 600 FL
Nikon HK-40 Lens Hood For AF-S 600 FL | Shade the lens from stray light
Stray light coming in from the side can lower contrast and cause flare, especially when you’re working outdoors. The Nikon HK-40 is a lens hood named for the AF-S 600 FL; its job is to shade the lens from that unwanted light. It’s a dedicated accessory for photographers using that specific lens, rather than a general-purpose hood to choose by appearance. Fit it when bright sunlight or nearby light sources are entering the frame from off to the side, and it can help keep the image cleaner. For wildlife or field sports, where you may be shooting in open conditions and can’t always change your position, that straightforward shading is the benefit. It’s a focused accessory: useful for managing stray light with the named lens, not a substitute for choosing your angle or exposure.
Specialist Note
“Is the Nikon HK-40 the hood for my AF-S 600 FL?” Yes—the product name pairs this hood with that lens, so I’d keep the match specific rather than assume it fits other optics. The HK-40 designation is useful when you’re identifying the right accessory at the counter; the AF-S 600 FL name tells you which lens it’s intended for. For wildlife in strong daylight, fit the hood before you start and keep the sun outside the frame when possible; for sidelight, use it to help reduce unwanted light reaching the lens. Its limit is just as clear: it’s for the named lens, not a universal hood.
