The LaCie D2 is an external hard drive for keeping files together outside your computer. Its 6TB capacity suits photographers, videographers and other creators who need room for substantial collections of files, whether they’re setting aside completed work or making space for current projects. The title names both Thunderbolt 2 and USB 3.0, so there are two connection standards to consider when choosing where it fits in your setup. It’s a 3.5-inch drive, which gives you a useful size reference when planning a place for it. One practical point: a single drive can hold a lot, but it shouldn’t be your only copy of files you can’t replace. Used thoughtfully, the D2 is a straightforward way to add external storage without making a folder archive harder to manage.

Planning your storage

Before adding a drive, it helps to decide what job you want it to do. You might reserve it for finished client work, keep a library of source files together, or use it as extra space when your computer’s internal storage fills up. A simple folder structure and consistent naming make it easier to find older work later; those habits matter whichever external drive you use. If you’re moving an existing collection, think about how you’ll divide it and where you’ll keep a second copy of the files that matter most. That’s not a feature of this particular model, just sensible storage practice. The D2’s listed capacity gives you a clear starting point for deciding whether one drive suits your collection, while its named connection standards help you consider how it belongs in your working setup.

Technical Specifications

Product type: External HDD

Capacity: 6TB

Connections named: Thunderbolt 2 and USB 3.0

Drive size: 3.5 inches

Measurement stated in title: 89 cm

Model: STEX6000400
