The Rycote BD-10 is a bi-directional mic, suited to recordings where the arrangement of voices or sound sources matters. It’s a practical option for a face-to-face interview, a conversation across a table, or a setup with a source in front and another behind the mic. Place each sound source on one of its two pickup sides, then listen back to make sure the balance works for your recording. That deliberate placement is the point: this kind of microphone can serve a two-sided setup without asking both participants to crowd onto the same side. The product information identifies it as a bi-directional mic; it doesn’t give further details about its connections or recording characteristics, so I’d choose it for that stated pickup arrangement rather than assume features beyond it.

Specialist Note

A common slip with a bi-directional mic is to aim it at one speaker and leave the other source wherever it happens to be. With the BD-10, think in terms of its two pickup sides: set two interview participants opposite one another across the microphone, or put a speaker on one side and a second sound source on the other. That’s where the Rycote’s stated bi-directional design gives you a clear reason to choose it. It suits planned conversations and paired-source recordings, where you can arrange the people before you start. It’s less suited to a setup where sound comes from several scattered directions; placement matters.

Technical Specifications

Brand: Rycote

Model: BD-10

Type: Bi-directional microphone

Category: Microphone Accessories
