At 80cm, this Caruba umbrella is a compact modifier for portrait photographers, headshots and small product subjects, especially when you want to soften shadows without setting up a large lighting source. Place it between the flash and your subject, then adjust its position to control how broadly the light falls. Moving it closer gives the light a more local feel; moving it farther back spreads it across a little more of the scene, though with less softness. It suits home studios, small workspaces and simple portrait setups where space matters. The umbrella format keeps the approach straightforward: shape the flash with the translucent surface rather than adding a larger softbox. Its 80cm size is practical to position, but it’s still a relatively small source for lighting several people at once.

Specialist Note

Photographers making headshots, portraits or small still-life images will get the clearest benefit from this 80cm umbrella. The translucent white surface lets you send flash through it, so the light reaching a face or product is softened rather than hitting it directly. For a close portrait, bring the umbrella near the subject and aim the flash through the centre; that keeps the softer light concentrated where you need it. Its modest diameter also makes it easier to fit into a tight shooting space than a much larger light modifier. The honest limitation is coverage: for a full group or a broad set, 80cm can feel small. I’d treat it as a focused, space-conscious option for single subjects.

Technical Specifications

Type: Flash umbrella

Size: 80cm

Colour: Black

Light transmission: Translucent
