The Paterson PAT211 Filmafstrijktang is a film squeegee tong, made for clearing excess water from film before it dries. It suits photographers who develop film in a darkroom and want a dedicated tool for this finishing step. Its job is a simple one: help remove surface water, rather than replace any part of the developing process. That focus is also its appeal; you reach for it at a specific moment, after the rinse and before drying. In my experience, this is the sort of small darkroom tool that earns its place when you want a more controlled routine. It’s a straightforward bit of kit, and there’s no need to make the task more complicated than it is.

After the rinse

Use a film squeegee tong to clear water from the film before you hang it to dry. Keeping the contact surfaces clean matters: grit between a squeegee and film could cause scratches. Handle the film carefully and use gentle pressure rather than forcing the tool along it. That’s sensible practice for this kind of task, not a special feature of the PAT211. The useful point is that the tool has a clear role in the darkroom workflow, right at the transition from washing to drying.

If you’re organising a darkroom setup, this is an accessory to consider for that final wet stage. It won’t develop or dry the film for you; it’s there to help remove excess water before drying begins. That’s a modest job, but a defined one.

Technical Specifications

Brand: Paterson

Model: PAT211

Product type: Film squeegee tongs
