The aus Jena DDR 50mm f/2.8 is a manual focus standard lens based on the famous Tessar optical design. Made in East Germany, this lens was branded “aus Jena” for export markets (typically to avoid trademark issues with Zeiss in the West) and features a 4-element design known for its sharpness and beautiful vintage rendering.

With its M42 screw mount, this lens is compatible with a wide range of vintage cameras and can also be adapted to modern digital mirrorless systems. It’s ideal for portraits, street photography, or anyone looking to explore classic Zeiss-style character on a budget.

Lens (SN: 9193744) is in good working order. Glass is clean — no haze, fungus, or scratches. Aperture blades are dry and responsive. Focus ring turns smoothly. Barrel shows light signs of wear consistent with age, but no major damage.
