Caruba ET-74 Lens Hood Canon | Help keep stray light off the lens

Without a hood, a bright light just outside your frame can reach the front of the lens and create unwanted flare. The Caruba ET-74 is a lens hood for Canon, intended for photographers who want a straightforward way to shade the lens while framing a shot. It’s most useful when shooting outdoors in changeable light or working near a window, where light can arrive from the side. Fit the hood before you start composing, then keep an eye on strong light just beyond the edges of your frame; a hood can help with stray light, but it can’t block a light source that’s directly in the picture. Its white colour gives the accessory a lighter look than a black hood, which may suit a matching setup. This is a focused accessory for controlling light around the lens, rather than a change to how your camera records an image.

Specialist Note

At a bright window, I’d keep the ET-74 fitted while composing a portrait, especially if daylight is skimming in from one side. The hood’s job is to shade the lens from that off-frame light; it won’t remove flare from a lamp or window that’s actually in your composition. The ET-74 name is the detail I’d use when identifying this particular hood, rather than choosing by appearance alone. Its white finish is also easy to pick out among darker accessories, which can be handy when packing or changing gear. It suits a Canon setup where this is the specified hood, and it’s a simple aid—not a substitute for adjusting your angle to the light.
