Specialist Note

Autofocus helps keep street photography responsive: point the camera, pick your framing and let it handle focus while a moment unfolds. On a Sony APS-C body, the view is equivalent to about 42mm on full frame, which gives you a natural-feeling frame for people and everyday travel scenes. For passing pedestrians, try starting around 1/250 sec; in dimmer light, opening the aperture to f/2 gives you more room to keep that shutter speed up, though it won’t freeze every movement by itself. I’d recommend it to someone happy to work with one fixed view. There’s no zoom to reframe from your spot, so you’ll need to move closer or farther to change the composition.
