Rollei AF 24 mm f/1.8 Z
Rollei AF 24 mm f/1.8 Z | Wide-angle views with a bright aperture
Its combination of a 24mm focal length and a maximum aperture of f/1.8 makes this wide-angle prime a useful option when you want to fit more of a scene into the frame and still have room to work in lower light. It’s aimed at photographers who prefer a fixed focal length and want autofocus for quick, straightforward shooting. Landscapes and architecture are natural subjects: the wide view helps include more of a building or a broad scene, while the bright aperture gives you flexibility as the light fades. For street and travel photography, 24mm encourages you to get close to a subject while keeping some of its surroundings in view. It’s also suited to astro photography, where the f/1.8 maximum aperture can help gather light. As a prime lens, it doesn’t zoom; you’ll need to adjust your position to change the composition.
Specialist Note
At 24mm, you can bring a strong sense of place into a frame without stepping too far back. I’d point this lens toward architecture or a travel scene when the surroundings matter as much as the main subject. The f/1.8 maximum aperture is especially helpful for astro work: open it up to let in more light, and give the night sky more room in your exposure choices. Autofocus also makes it a practical fit for street photography, where you may want to catch a moment without taking time to focus by hand. One thing to keep in mind is that this is a prime, so you’ll compose by moving rather than zooming. It suits photographers who enjoy working with one considered wide-angle view.
