That’s the practical point of an ND filter, and it makes this B+W a tool for photographers who want to control exposure rather than simply record a scene at the quickest available shutter speed. Use it to give moving water a softer appearance, or to keep a wider aperture when daylight would otherwise make the exposure too bright. The effect depends on the scene and the exposure you choose. The product name identifies it as the 103 ND Gray in a 62 E designation; match the 62 size to the filter thread on your lens before planning a shoot. If you want a filter for deliberate exposure choices in daylight, this is the kind of straightforward accessory to consider.

Specialist Note

Exposure becomes a more deliberate choice once this grey ND filter is in place: you can work toward a slower shutter speed instead of letting bright light dictate a fast one. I’d consider it for flowing water, where a longer exposure can soften the movement, or for portraits in bright daylight when you want to keep a wider aperture. The 62 designation is useful when matching the filter to a lens with a 62 mm filter thread, so check the marking on the lens itself. One point to keep in mind: an ND filter reduces light, but the exact exposure change you’ll get depends on the filter’s density and your settings.

Technical Specifications

Brand: B+W

Filter type: ND gray filter

Designation: 103 ND Gray 62 E

Category: Filters > Gray Filter > ND Filter
