The B&W 5040/B Empty is a hard case for transporting and storing camera gear when it needs protection from knocks, dust or rain. It’s supplied empty, so the case itself is the starting point rather than a pre-filled kit. That suits photographers and other camera users who want a protective outer case for equipment they already own. Use it to keep gear enclosed between shoots or while moving it from one place to another. The practical advantage is straightforward: a hard case is intended for handling the bumps and exposure that make an ordinary bag a less reassuring option. It’s a sensible format for keeping equipment together in storage, too. Treat the rain protection as help in wet conditions, rather than assuming the case is suitable for submersion.

Specialist Note

The 5040/B’s hard-case form gives you a firm outer barrier, which matters when your gear is travelling alongside other equipment or being moved through a dusty space. I’d consider it for transporting camera gear between a vehicle and a work location, or for keeping equipment together in storage when it may be exposed to knocks. Its empty format leaves the choice of what to carry with you, so it makes sense if you’re organising your own camera kit rather than buying a filled case. The protection against dust and rain is useful in changeable working conditions; I’d still avoid treating it as a case for immersion. If your priority is a soft, lightweight carry bag, this is the wrong format.

Technical Specifications

Product kind: Hard case

Format: Empty

Typical use: Transport and storage

Protection: Knocks, dust or rain
