It’s a darkroom tank for photographers who work through multiple rolls and want to handle them in a shared processing session, rather than treating each roll as a separate job. The “Exc. spir” part matters when planning your setup: the spirals are excluded, so this is the tank itself, not a complete tank-and-spiral set. Its eight-reel capacity is the defining detail, and a substantial one; it makes most sense when your developing routine can put that room to use. If you usually process only one roll at a time, this may be more tank than you need. For a busy batch, though, the format is clear and practical. You’ll need to source the spirals separately for your intended workflow.

For a larger developing batch

A multi-reel tank is useful when a developing session involves more than one roll: you can plan around a single tank with room for as many as eight reels. That can suit photographers who accumulate several rolls before heading to the darkroom, or who simply prefer to process a larger batch at once. The honest consideration is scale. Eight-reel capacity is generous, so think about how many rolls you normally develop together before choosing this size. The product name tells you exactly what to expect from the format, while the “Exc. spir” note is easy to overlook when comparing darkroom supplies. Since spirals aren’t part of this product, you’ll need them separately; choose what suits your own processing needs. That keeps the purchase focused on the tank, without assuming a particular film format or setup.

Technical Specifications

Product: Paterson PAT118 Multi Reel 8 Tank

Capacity: 8 reels

Spirals: Excluded

Category: Accessories > Darkroom
