The Zeiss Ikon VEB Contax D (serial no. 82761) is a historically important 35mm single-lens reflex (SLR) camera, produced in Dresden, East Germany (GDR) in the early 1950s by VEB Zeiss Ikon, later known as Pentacon. As one of the first 35mm SLRs with an M42 screw mount, the Contax D laid the foundation for decades of camera design. It is entirely mechanical, built to exceptional standards, and known for its precision engineering and durability. A true collector’s piece, it represents a milestone in postwar European camera manufacturing.
