Olympus LH-40 Lens Hood (14-42 II)
Olympus LH-40 Lens Hood (14-42 II) | Keep stray light at bay
Keep bright light coming from outside the frame from washing over your pictures, so scenes retain clearer contrast. The Olympus LH-40 Lens Hood is named for the 14-42 II lens and gives its owner a dedicated hood for managing stray light. It’s especially useful when you’re photographing outdoors with the sun off to one side, or indoors near a bright window: position the light just beyond the edge of your composition and the hood can help limit unwanted flare. That makes it easier to keep detail and colour looking natural without changing your framing. This is a focused accessory rather than a general-purpose add-on; its appeal is the specific pairing signalled in its name. If you use the Olympus 14-42 II, it’s a straightforward way to address a common source of hazy-looking images. A hood can’t stop flare when a strong light source shines directly into the lens, but it can help when that light arrives from an angle.
Specialist Note
Side light can quietly flatten a photo, even when the subject and framing are right. For an owner of the 14-42 II, the LH-40 is the model-specific hood named for that lens, so it keeps the accessory choice simple. I’d use it when photographing a person or building with the sun just outside the frame; keep that bright source off the front of the lens and the hood can help preserve contrast. It suits someone who wants to get more consistent-looking images from this particular lens without adding another shooting step. One limit to keep in mind: direct light entering the lens can still cause flare.
