7Artisans 7.5mm f/2.8 MkII MFT (Pana/Olympus) | Wide views, deliberate framing

The 7.5mm focal length is the defining optical choice: it takes in a broad sweep of a scene, giving Micro Four Thirds photographers a dedicated lens for expansive compositions rather than everyday framing. Its 111° angle of view can bring a wide foreground and plenty of sky into a landscape, or make an architectural interior feel more open. Astro photography is another natural fit; the f/2.8 maximum aperture is useful when you're working with limited light. This is an interchangeable ultra-wide prime with manual focus, so you'll set focus yourself rather than rely on autofocus. That suits considered compositions, especially when you have time to place the horizon and edges carefully. Choose it when the surroundings are part of the subject. With such a wide view, keeping lines looking straight and the edges of the frame tidy takes care.

Specialist Note

Photographers framing a broad coastline, a narrow courtyard or a star-filled sky are the people I’d point toward this 7Artisans. For stars, I’d start at f/2.8 with an exposure around 10 seconds, then adjust ISO and check the result for star trails. Manual focus means you choose the focus point yourself; take a moment to check distant detail before settling on a composition. It’s a specialised lens, so it makes most sense when you want that unusually broad perspective, not as your only lens for every kind of subject. For architecture, watch the frame edges and keep the camera level if you want a more controlled look.
