Newell RGB Light Stick Kathi Pro

Newell RGB Light Stick Kathi Pro | Colour lighting for studio setups

The Newell RGB Light Stick Kathi Pro is a studio accessory built around two clear ideas: RGB light and a stick-shaped form. It suits photographers and video makers looking to bring coloured light into a studio scene, whether that means adding an accent or shaping the feel of a background. The elongated format gives you a different kind of light source to work into a setup than a conventional compact light, without making claims about its output or controls. Its strongest fit is creative work where colour has a deliberate part to play. If you mainly need plain illumination, the RGB element may be less relevant; if colour is part of the image you have in mind, this is the kind of accessory worth considering. Think about where you want that colour to sit in the frame before planning the rest of the lighting.

Working with colour

Coloured light can change the mood of a scene, draw attention to part of a composition, or give a background a different feel. A stick-form light gives you a distinct shape to consider when arranging that colour around a subject or set. Those are creative possibilities, rather than promises about a particular effect: the result depends on the scene and how you choose to use the light. For a portrait, you might plan colour as an accent; for a video set, you might think about how it relates to the background. Keep the intended look in mind when deciding whether an RGB light belongs in your setup. The Kathi Pro’s name tells you what kind of accessory it is, so you can judge it by the role you want coloured light to play in your studio work.
