Laowa 17mm f/4.0 Zero-D Shift - Hasselblad XCD (VE1740S-XCD)

Laowa 17mm f/4.0 Zero-D Shift - Hasselblad XCD (VE1740S-XCD) | Keep architectural lines straight

Without a shift lens, photographing a tall building often means tilting the camera up and letting its vertical lines converge. The Laowa 17mm f/4.0 Zero-D Shift gives Hasselblad X photographers another approach: keep the camera level, then shift the lens to bring more of the building into the frame. Its 116° angle of view also takes in broad scenes, making it useful for landscape work when you want foreground and setting in the same composition. This is a manual-focus ultra-wide prime for medium format, aimed at photographers who prefer careful framing over quick, automatic shooting. Architecture is its clearest strength, from façades to interiors where straight lines matter. It also suits deliberate landscape compositions. The shift movement is the reason to choose this lens; it gives you framing control without relying on a steep upward camera angle.

Made for deliberate framing

• Shift the composition while keeping the camera level for architectural subjects.
• Use the 116° view to include more of a landscape or a confined interior.
• Manual focus suits considered compositions where you can take time to place the focus.

Keep the camera level

For a building, start with the camera level and adjust the shift to position the structure in the frame. That keeps the viewpoint more controlled than aiming the camera upward. In a landscape, the wide view can bring a near foreground into the same picture as a distant horizon. The effect depends on where you stand and how you frame, so this lens rewards small adjustments rather than rushed shooting.
