The B+W 102 MRC ND Gray 77 is a neutral-density filter for reducing the light that reaches your camera, giving you more room to use a slower shutter speed. It’s a good fit for photographers who want to show movement in a landscape or smooth the look of a waterfall without relying on a dimmer scene. The 77 in the name identifies the filter size, while 102 MRC ND Gray is the product designation. Match the filter size to the thread on your lens before choosing it. An ND filter changes the amount of light entering the lens; it doesn’t create motion in the scene, so the effect depends on what’s moving and how long the exposure lasts. This is a focused tool for controlling exposure, rather than a general-purpose lens accessory.

Specialist Note

In strong daylight, a moving subject can be hard to render with a slower shutter speed because too much light reaches the sensor. This grey ND filter reduces that incoming light, giving you more exposure control for a softer waterfall or blurred movement in a stream. The 77 size matters at the counter: it needs to match the filter thread on your lens, so check that measurement before you buy. I’d consider it for landscape work where water or other movement is part of the picture. One practical limit: an ND filter won’t add motion where nothing is moving, and the title alone doesn’t give a strength to plan a specific shutter speed around.

Technical Specifications

Brand: B+W

Designation: 102 MRC

Filter type: ND gray

Size: 77

Category: Filters > Gray Filter > ND Filter
