The Godox Translucent Flash Umbrella is a 150 cm modifier for photographers who want to soften direct flash in a portrait, at home or in a small studio. Its large size gives you a generous surface to spread the light across, while the translucent finish lets the flash pass through rather than bounce back from an opaque surface. That makes it a straightforward option for shaping a softer look without adding a complicated lighting setup. It can also help with small product photographs when you want to reduce the hard-edged shadows from direct flash. The 150 cm diameter does call for room to position it, so it’s best suited to spaces where you can place the umbrella close to the subject and still work comfortably.

Specialist Note

The translucent surface changes the character of direct flash: point the flash through it and the light reaching your subject is spread out, giving portraits softer-edged shadows. At 150 cm, there’s a broad area for that light to pass through, which is useful when you want to cover more than just a small part of the scene. I’d use it for a simple head-and-shoulders portrait, with the umbrella close to the person, or for a small product setup where hard flash shadows are distracting. The size is also the practical limit: allow space to position it. It’s a simple modifier, best when you want softened flash rather than a precisely controlled beam.

Technical Specifications

Brand: Godox

Type: Translucent flash umbrella

Size: 150 cm
