It’s photo paper for printmakers and photographers who want a smooth finish for artwork, portfolios or a planned series of prints. The generous width gives you room to work with larger layouts, while the roll length can serve a sequence of jobs rather than just one print. The honest point is that this is a substantial format: it makes most sense when you have a clear use for the width and a print plan for the length. “Fine Art Smooth” is the useful guide to its character; beyond that, the title gives no basis for claiming a particular surface texture, paper weight or printer fit.

Planning prints from a roll

With roll paper, the dimensions are part of the decision. Think about the width your artwork needs, then allow space in your layout for your own trimming and handling. The length you use for each print determines how many prints you can cut from the roll, so a batch of shorter pieces will use it differently from a few longer ones. That’s worth working out before settling on a layout, especially if you’re preparing a portfolio or a consistent set of images. This paper’s name points to a smooth fine art finish, so it’s most relevant when that is the look you want to work with. If your print plans are built around textured paper, this smooth-surface option may not be the character you’re after. The format is clear; the choice comes down to your artwork and how you intend to use the roll.

Technical Specifications

Brand: Ilford

Series: Galerie Prestige

Paper: Fine Art Smooth

Dimensions: 111.8cm x 30.5m
