It’s a 40TB RAID storage unit for photographers, video editors and other creators who work with large files and want a central home for an archive or ongoing projects. That capacity makes it suited to collections that have outgrown a single small portable drive, though the title doesn’t specify how much space is available for files in a particular RAID configuration. The 3.5-inch format points to a desk-based setup, rather than storage you’d choose to carry around every day. Its USB 3.1 Type-C connection is part of the product’s specification, so it’s worth considering how that connection fits into your existing workspace. This is a focused option for consolidating digital material; its appeal is having a large stated capacity in a dedicated RAID unit, not extra features we can’t verify.

Specialist Note

“Is the LaCie 2BIG RAID 40TB suited to a big photo archive?” Yes—its stated capacity gives you room to bring a substantial collection into one storage unit. I’d consider it for organising years of photographs or keeping current video projects together; create clear folders by year, client or project before copying files across, so the library stays manageable. The USB 3.1 Type-C connection is the key detail to account for in your desk setup. And because this is a 3.5-inch product, I’d think of it as stationary storage, not something to toss in a camera bag. One point to keep in mind: the title doesn’t say how much of the 40TB is usable in a chosen RAID setup.

Technical Specifications

Brand: LaCie

Series: 2BIG RAID

Capacity: 40TB

Drive format: 3.5-inch

Connection: USB 3.1 Type-C
