The Tiffen 4487 is identified as an 87 filter, so its appeal is specific: it suits photographers and production crews who need that exact filter designation in a 4x4 format. It’s a practical match when you’re replacing a filter already in your kit or following a shot plan that names both the size and number. The format makes it straightforward to identify alongside other square filters, while the 87 marking helps distinguish it from filters with different designations. This is a focused purchase, not a general recommendation for every camera bag. If your setup calls for a 4x4 87, the product name gives you the key details to match.

Specialist Note

On a studio table, just before a crew sets up a planned shot, this is the kind of filter you choose by its exact markings. The 4x4 size tells you the square format your filter arrangement needs to accept; use it with a holder designed for 4x4 filters. The 87 designation is the other detail to match, especially when a shot list or existing kit names that filter specifically. I’d recommend it to someone filling a precise gap in a square-filter setup, or replacing an 87 already in their workflow. My honest advice: don’t buy it just because you want a general-purpose filter; its value is in matching the specified size and designation.

Technical Specifications

Product: Tiffen 4487 4x4 87 Filter

Format: 4x4

Filter designation: 87

Category: UV filter
