It’s designed for setting white balance, helping you establish a reference from the light on your subject instead of relying solely on an automatic estimate. That’s useful for portraits, product photography and other work where you want colour to stay consistent across a sequence. “Wide Spectrum” describes its intended white-balance role, while “V3” identifies the version. This is a practical colour tool, not a creative-effect filter; its purpose is to give you a considered starting point for colour, rather than add a look to the image. If you regularly set a custom white balance and the 82mm size suits your setup, the Rogue ExpoDisc V3 is a focused option to consider.

Specialist Note

At a window-lit portrait session, the room lights are still on and the colour of the light matters. I’d use the ExpoDisc to make a white-balance reference under the illumination falling on the subject, then set a custom balance before photographing the sequence. The 82mm designation is the detail to match to the lens setup you plan to use; it makes the choice specific, not universal. And the Wide Spectrum name speaks to its role as a white-balance tool, rather than a filter for adding colour effects. It suits photographers who prefer to set colour at capture. In mixed light, you still need to choose where to take your reference—the disc can’t decide which light should guide the balance.

Technical Specifications

Product: Rogue ExpoDisc V3 Wide Spectrum White Balance

Size: 82mm

Version: V3

Category: Color Filter
