Shape’s FS5SM is for operators who want a shoulder-mounted setup for their FS5 and prefer to work handheld. Its purpose is straightforward: add support while you’re shooting video. That can suit interviews, event coverage and other work where you need to adjust your framing as a scene changes. The rig keeps the approach handheld, so you can follow the action without stopping to set up a tripod between shots. It’s a focused option for FS5 video rather than a general-purpose camera support, and its value is in that specific shoulder-mounted way of working.

Specialist Note

At an interview, the FS5 is ready for a handheld take, and this is where the FS5SM’s shoulder-rig design makes sense. It gives the camera extra support at your shoulder, which can make holding a composed frame feel more manageable than supporting it with your hands alone. The Sony FS5 in the name makes this a focused pick for FS5 owners, not a catch-all rig. For a seated interview, settle the camera onto your shoulder before rolling and reframe deliberately; for event coverage, you can stay handheld as you follow the action. I wouldn’t choose it to lock off a static shot or smooth out walking footage: it’s a shoulder rig, so your stance and handling still matter.

Technical Specifications

Product kind: Shoulder rig

Camera: Sony FS5

Typical use: Handheld video work needing extra support
