This Westcott Scrim Jim Cine fabric is rated at 3/4 stop and measures 1.8 x 1.8 metres, so it offers a square area of diffusion for controlled lighting work. It suits photographers and filmmakers who need to manage the quality of light on set, rather than relying on a small accessory close to the light source. The useful detail here is the combination of a stated diffusion strength and a clear working size: you can judge both from the product name when planning a setup. It’s a practical piece of lighting control fabric, with no extra claims needed. Keep in mind that the 3/4-stop rating indicates light reduction as well as diffusion, so account for that when setting exposure.

Working with diffusion

Diffusion is used to spread and soften light, helping reduce the hard appearance that a direct source can create. A 1.8 x 1.8 metre fabric gives you a broad square surface to work with; the exact effect depends on how you position it in relation to the light and subject. The 3/4-stop rating is the specific strength identified for this fabric, making it easier to distinguish from diffusion materials with a different rating. If you’re choosing fabric for a particular lighting setup, those two figures are the most useful starting points: the size tells you the area, while the stop rating tells you the stated diffusion level. This description is for the fabric itself.

Technical Specifications

Product: Westcott Scrim Jim Cine 3/4 Stop Diffusion Fabric

Diffusion rating: 3/4 stop

Size: 1.8 x 1.8 m
