Fujifilm XF23mm f/2.8 R WR Black (Pancake)
Fujifilm XF23mm f/2.8 R WR Black (Pancake) | A wide view in a compact lens
At a city corner or on a walking route through the countryside, a small lens is easier to have ready when a scene opens up. The Fujifilm XF23mm f/2.8 R WR Black is an interchangeable wide-angle prime for Fujifilm X cameras, with autofocus and a pancake design. It suits photographers who want a straightforward lens for landscape and architecture, especially when they’re moving between locations and don’t want a bulky setup. Its broad view helps include more of a façade or landscape in the frame, while its familiar perspective also works well for everyday scenes. This is a focused choice rather than a zoom: you compose by moving yourself, which can be an advantage when you want to be deliberate about what sits at the edges of the image. The black finish keeps the look understated.
Specialist Note
The XF23mm f/2.8 makes it easier to frame a street-facing building from a pavement where stepping back isn’t an option. On a Fujifilm APS-C body, its 23mm focal length gives a view similar to about 35mm on full frame, a natural fit for façades and landscape scenes without an exaggerated wide-angle look. For a building, keep the camera level and include the lines you want to preserve; for a landscape, use the wide view to place a clear foreground in the frame. The f/2.8 maximum aperture gives you room to work in lower light, though this is a fixed-focal-length lens, so you’ll need to reframe by moving rather than zooming.
