The Formatt Hitech Supermist Black 1/8 is a glass filter designed to give them a gentler, more diffused appearance while taking a little crispness out of the overall look. Its effect is subtle, so it can add atmosphere without making every frame look heavily softened. That makes it a considered option for portrait photographers who want a softer rendering of skin, and for scenes with point lights where a restrained glow helps set the mood. The 1/8 strength is the detail to focus on: it offers a lighter touch than a pronounced mist effect, though it still changes the character of the image. This is a creative filter, not a UV filter for protecting a lens. Use it when you want the softened rendering to be part of the picture from the start.

Specialist Note

There is a trade-off: even this light mist effect reduces some of the image’s crisp contrast, so it won’t suit every subject. The reason to choose this 1/8 version is that the change stays restrained while still giving bright areas a softer presence. I’d suggest it for portraits with a bright window or a practical light in the background; keep that light in the composition and let the filter soften its edge. It also suits night scenes with visible point lights, where a gentle glow can add atmosphere without asking for a strong effect. The 100 x 100 mm glass format gives you a square filter surface, while the black Supermist designation identifies the look you’re choosing. It’s for photographers who want that look deliberately, rather than maximum bite in every frame.

Technical Specifications

Filter type: Supermist Black 1/8

Material: Glass

Dimensions: 100 x 100 mm

Colour: Black
