It suits camera operators and assistants who want a dedicated safety accessory as part of their matte-box rigging. Use it as a secondary restraint, so the matte box has an additional safety connection if its main support is disturbed. That makes it most useful when building or checking a rig where keeping the matte box secure matters. This isn’t an optical filter, and it won’t change exposure or colour; it’s a small piece of rigging gear for a specific purpose. If you need a safety braid for a matte box, this model is clearly identified for that role.

Where it fits in your rig

Think of the braid as part of the rig’s safety planning, not as an image accessory. Its role is separate from the filter itself: it provides a physical link for the matte-box setup. That distinction is useful when you’re sorting kit or planning a build, especially if you’re searching by product name and want to avoid mistaking it for a UV filter. Keep its intended job in mind when choosing the right safety accessory for your setup; this product is specifically named for matte-box use.

Specialist Note

12 inches gives this braid a short, defined reach, which is handy when you want a safety link in a matte-box rig without choosing a longer length by default. I’d consider it for an operator or assistant who wants a dedicated secondary restraint as part of their setup. The red finish is easy to pick out while checking the rig, so you can spot the braid rather than overlook it among the equipment. Use it as part of your matte-box safety arrangement, not as a substitute for the main support. One honest point: that visible red may not suit a rig where you want every accessory to blend in.

Technical Specifications

Product: Safety braid

Intended use: For matte box

Length: 12 inches

Colour: Red

Model: KB-MB-SS12-R
