The Meike 85mm f/1.4 AF STM is an autofocus lens for full-frame Sony E cameras, offering a dedicated portrait perspective rather than the changing view of a zoom. It suits photographers who make portraits, photograph couples or pick out details and want the subject to hold attention in the frame. Its natural territory is composed portraiture, but it can also suit indoor events where you can choose where to stand. The wide aperture gives you the option of a softly blurred background and can help when the available light is low. This is a focused tool for deliberate framing: it won’t let you change the composition by zooming, so you’ll need room to adjust your position. If that approach suits your subject and setting, it gives you a clear reason to reach for a dedicated portrait lens.

Specialist Note

“Does the Meike 85mm f/1.4 AF STM make sense for portraits?” Yes—its 85mm focal length gives you a tighter view, so step back enough for a head-and-shoulders frame rather than crowding your subject. The f/1.4 maximum aperture is the key creative option: open it up when you want the background to fall soft, or when you’re working in a dim room. I’d consider it for posed portraits and available-light indoor portraits, where you can take time to set your distance and framing. The fixed 85mm view does mean moving your feet; in a cramped room, that can be limiting.

Technical Specifications

Brand: Meike

Focal length: 85mm

Maximum aperture: f/1.4

Autofocus: AF STM

Image format: FullFrame

Mount: Sony E

Product type: Lens
