The Rycote Windshield 4 Kit w/ Zipped Windjammer is a microphone accessory designed for recording situations where wind is a concern. Its name identifies two parts of the setup: the Windshield 4 and a Zipped Windjammer. That makes it relevant to sound recordists and video makers who need to manage wind around a microphone, whether they’re capturing outdoor dialogue or ambient sound. The practical aim is straightforward: put a wind barrier between the microphone and moving air, so gusts are less likely to dominate the recording. It’s a focused accessory rather than a microphone or recorder, and the product title doesn’t identify which microphones it suits. If you’re choosing one for a particular setup, the microphone’s fit is the key detail to establish before you rely on it for a recording.

Specialist Note

The zipper is the physical detail I’d focus on here: it gives the Windjammer a closure point as you arrange it around the windshield. The name “Windshield 4” identifies the windshield in this kit; treat that 4 as part of the product name, not as a performance rating. For outdoor dialogue, position the microphone with the windshield between it and the breeze, then use the windjammer as the outer wind-cover element named in the kit. That’s also a sensible approach for recording ambient sound outdoors. I’d keep one point in mind: a wind cover can help with wind reaching the microphone, but it can’t make a gusty location quiet. This is a specific option to consider when wind is the problem you’re trying to manage.

Technical Specifications

Product type: Microphone windshield kit

Windshield designation: Windshield 4

Named windjammer: Zipped Windjammer
