Its name identifies it as a starter kit with 114mm backing, making that size the key detail to consider when planning your camera build. It’s aimed at video makers putting together a setup for interviews, narrative work or other shoots where a matte box is part of the intended rig. The kit format makes it a relevant starting point if you’re adding this kind of accessory to your workflow, rather than looking for a standard lens hood. The product name is specific, but it doesn’t tell us which components are included, so I wouldn’t assume a particular configuration from “starter kit” alone. Focus on the 114mm backing designation when deciding whether this is the right match for your planned setup.

Specialist Note

At the planning stage of a 114mm-backed camera build, I’d first make sure that this is the backing size I want to work around. That number is useful because it gives you a concrete point to match to your setup; it isn’t a vague, one-size label. The “Starter Kit” wording also makes this worth considering if you’re beginning to build a matte-box setup for filmed interviews or short narrative scenes. I’d plan the rest of the rig around the intended matte box, rather than assume the title tells you what’s in the kit. One honest point: the 114mm designation makes this a specific choice, not a universal answer for every camera build.

Technical Specifications

Brand and model: Tilta MB-T17-S114

Product: Mirage Pro Matte Box Starter Kit

Backing: 114mm

https://www.htf-store.com/pl/products/tilta-mb-t17-s114-mirage-pro-matte-box-starter-kit-114mm-backing
