The Viltrox AF 15mm f/1.7 Fuji XF gives Fujifilm X photographers a very wide perspective in an interchangeable autofocus prime. It’s especially well suited to landscapes, architecture and astrophotography, where a broad view helps you include more of the scene. For landscape work, it can take in a foreground and a wide horizon; for buildings, it lets you frame more of the structure from nearby. Its short focal length also makes it a natural option for night skies, where a wide composition can include both stars and the landscape below. If you want one focused on wide scenes rather than a general-purpose zoom, this lens has a clear role.

Specialist Note

“Is the Viltrox AF 15mm f/1.7 Fuji XF a sensible lens for photographing stars?” Yes, especially if you want a wide view and the option of a bright maximum aperture. I’d start at f/1.7, use a short shutter time to keep stars from streaking, then adjust ISO to suit the scene. Its APS-C format gives a field of view similar to about 22.5mm on full frame, which is wide without making every subject feel distant. For architecture, keep the camera level when you can; the broad perspective can make converging lines more noticeable. It’s a specialist focal length, so pair it with a more general lens if you often need tighter framing.

Technical Specifications

Product kind: interchangeable lens

Lens type: ultra-wide prime

Focal length: 15mm

Maximum aperture: f/1.7

Mount: Fuji X

Sensor format: APS-C

Focus: autofocus
