It’s a specialist option for photographers who want to work with direct-positive paper rather than choose paper for a different printing approach. The FB 1K designation identifies the product as named, while the 40.6 × 50.8 cm sheet size gives you a substantial area to plan a print around. With ten sheets in the pack, you have a defined quantity for a small project or a set of prints. That makes it easier to decide whether the pack suits the work you have in mind before you begin. The product’s purpose is quite specific: direct-positive printing on sheet paper. If that’s the result you’re working towards, this Ilford pack gives you the relevant format without dressing it up as a general-purpose paper.

Choosing this paper for a project

Start with the image you want to make and the printing approach you intend to use. This paper is named for direct-positive work, so it makes sense when that’s central to the project; it isn’t a catch-all recommendation for every kind of print. The large sheet format also affects how you might plan a finished image: consider the composition at its intended print size, rather than treating the paper as an afterthought. A pack of ten gives you a set quantity to allocate across the work, so it’s worth having a clear idea of how many final prints you’re aiming to make. Those are practical decisions, not promises about the look of the finished print. If the direct-positive method and sheet format match your plan, the product name makes the intended use easy to identify.

Technical Specifications

Product: Ilford Direct Positive Paper FB 1K

Paper size: 40.6 × 50.8 cm

Quantity: 10 sheets

Colour: Black
