The Nikon SJ-2 is a colour filter set made for the SB-R200 flash, so it’s aimed at photographers who already use that flash and want to change the colour of its light. Try a coloured accent on a background, or use filtered flash to bring a deliberate hue into a close-up or still-life scene. The effect comes from the flash light passing through a colour filter; it’s a way to influence the colour in the lit area, rather than change the subject itself. That makes the SJ-2 most relevant for controlled lighting setups where you can see how the added colour sits in the frame. It’s a focused accessory, not a general-purpose lighting modifier, and its appeal is precisely that straightforward creative role.

Specialist Note

The colour is the physical detail that matters here: these filters are for changing the hue of the SB-R200’s flash light, not its direction. I’d suggest this set to an SB-R200 owner who wants to add a coloured patch to a background or give a small still-life subject a more expressive look. Keep the coloured light on one part of the scene and leave other light neutral if you want the colour to read clearly. It’s a specific tool, so it won’t replace a modifier when your aim is softer or more controlled light; choose it for colour effects.

Technical Specifications

Product: Nikon SJ-2

Type: Colour filter set

For: SB-R200
