The PolarPro Chroma VND/PL 2-5 combines variable neutral-density adjustment with polarising filtration, giving you two kinds of light control in one filter. Its 2–5 designation indicates a variable reduction of two to five stops, useful when the light changes and you want to adjust exposure without swapping to a different-strength ND filter. The PL designation adds polarising control, which can help reduce reflections from surfaces such as water or glass. This McKinnon Series filter is aimed at photographers and filmmakers who want to manage both exposure and reflected light while shooting. The 82mm size is the key fit detail: it’s intended for a lens with an 82mm filter thread. If your lens uses a different thread size, this filter won’t be a direct fit.

Specialist Note

That 82mm diameter is the practical detail to start with: match it to an 82mm lens thread, and the filter is ready to give you its combined controls. The 2–5-stop variable ND range is handy for bright scenes where you want to open the aperture or lengthen the shutter time; turn the adjustment within that range to set the exposure you need. The PL element is useful when reflections are distracting, for example on water or a shop window. I’d point this out to someone who wants both kinds of control without changing filters mid-shot. One limit: two to five stops is a moderate range, so very strong light may call for more ND reduction.

Technical Specifications

Product: PolarPro Chroma VND/PL 2-5

Filter size: 82mm

Series: McKinnon Series

Filter type: Variable ND and polarizing filter

ND range: 2–5 stops
