Its Classic Soft effect is intended for a gentler rendering, making it a considered option for portraits, interviews and other scenes where you want a softer visual character. The 1/8 strength keeps the effect on the lighter end of this filter’s designation, rather than making softness the whole point of the image. It suits crews and cinematographers who want to choose a particular look as part of their image-making, and who work with filters in this format. Think of it as a creative choice, not a neutral filter for changing exposure: its appeal is the character suggested by “Classic Soft.” If you want a pronounced effect, this light strength may not be the right direction; it’s better suited to a restrained treatment.

Specialist Note

On an interview set, as the framing tightens to a face, a gentle soft effect can help give the image a less stark character. I’d point a cinematographer towards this 1/8 strength when they want that treatment to stay restrained, rather than dominate the portrait. The “Classic Soft” name makes the intended look clear, so it’s a purposeful selection for a close-up or a softly styled beauty shot. It suits filmmakers who already know they want this kind of image character. One honest point: if your brief calls for a clearly pronounced soft effect, this particular strength may feel too subtle; choose it for nuance, not drama.

Technical Specifications

Product line: MPTV

Filter effect: Classic Soft 1/8

Format: 4x5.65
