It’s a straightforward option for camera crews and cinematographers who work with 4x4 filters and need to select the named filter rather than an unspecified alternative. The product name identifies both its 4x4 format and its 85C designation, making it easier to match the item to a requirement written in those terms. That’s where this filter is most useful: in a setup where the format and designation are already part of the plan. If you’re choosing a filter based on a particular image effect, use the 85C reference in your workflow to guide that choice. The name alone doesn’t describe an effect or tell you how it will render a scene, so I’d avoid guessing from the number.

Specialist Note

The Tiffen 4485C is a direct match when your setup specifically calls for an 85C filter in 4x4 format. I’d use the 4x4 marking as the first check against the filter requirement on your production, then match the 85C designation exactly; that keeps the selection tied to the named item rather than a guess based on appearance. It suits filmmakers and camera crews who already work from a specified filter list, particularly when more than one filter is in use. One practical limit: the title alone doesn’t tell you the intended visual effect, so follow the 85C reference in your established workflow rather than assuming what it will do.

Technical Specifications

Brand: Tiffen

Filter format: 4x4

Designation: 85C
