urth-58mm-infra-red-r72-lens-filter-plus
Urth 58mm Infra-Red (R72) Lens Filter (Plus+)

Urth 58mm Infra-Red (R72) Lens Filter (Plus+) | Explore infrared photography

The 58mm size and R72 designation make this Urth filter a specific option for photographers exploring infrared images, rather than a general colour filter. It’s suited to someone who wants to experiment with infrared photography and has a lens with a 58mm filter thread. The filter’s purpose is to let you work with an infrared effect; the look you get depends on how your camera responds to infrared light. That makes it especially relevant for outdoor scenes, where you can explore changes in how foliage, skies and other elements appear. The R72 name identifies this as Urth’s infrared filter version, while Plus+ is part of the product name. If you’re new to infrared work, think of it as a creative tool to experiment with, not a guaranteed recipe for a particular image. Your camera’s response matters as much as the filter.

Specialist Note

58mm is the filter size, so this is for a lens with a matching 58mm filter thread. I’d start with an outdoor scene that has plenty of foliage, then make a few frames to see how your camera renders it through the filter. The R72 designation tells you this is the infrared version, which makes it a focused way to explore infrared landscape or architectural photography. Do bear in mind that the result depends on the camera’s infrared response; the filter alone can’t promise a particular rendering. It suits a photographer who enjoys testing a different visual approach and is happy to learn through trial frames.

Technical Specifications

Filter size: 58mm

Filter type: Infra-red (R72)

Product line: Plus+
