Its reduced height brings the lens closer to the tripod head, improving balance and reducing flex and vibration. It’s made for owners of this Sony telephoto zoom who want a more stable tripod mounting point. Use it for tripod-mounted framing, where a lower centre of gravity supports a steadier setup, or for a stationary lens position where reduced vibration matters. The foot also offers a mounting option for tripod heads without an Arca-type clamp, using a matching threaded connection. Its double dovetail design allows accessories to attach above or below the foot, so the plate can serve as an accessory mounting point as well as a lens support. This is a dedicated replacement for one specific Sony lens, not a universal foot.

Mounting details

Double dovetail profile: The top and underside both accept compatible accessories, giving you two mounting surfaces on the foot.

Two threaded connections: 1/4"-20 and 3/8"-16 sockets provide a direct mounting option for tripod heads without an Arca-type clamp.

Safety stops: The pair of stops helps prevent the lens from sliding out if a clamp is only partly closed.

Black anodised finish: The finish covers the 6061 aluminium foot and gives it a hard-wearing exterior.

Compact dimensions: At 8.64 × 3.81 × 1.91 cm, the foot has a short, low-profile shape beneath the lens.

Specialist Note

The Wimberley AP-611’s strongest point is bringing the Sony FE 70-200 F/2.8 GM OSS closer to the tripod head for steadier support. At 65.2 g, it adds little weight to a lens setup, which is useful when carrying the lens between shooting positions. I’d recommend it to owners who regularly mount this zoom on a tripod: use its Arca-type profile with a compatible clamp for a direct connection, or use the matching threaded socket with a head that takes a screw-mounted plate. The double-sided dovetail is a thoughtful extra if you want to attach an accessory above or below the foot. Just note that it’s made specifically for this Sony lens.

What's Included

Wimberley AP-611 Replacement Foot

1/4"-20 mounting screw

3/8"-16 mounting screw

2 × M3 × 6 mm Allen bolts

5/32" Allen key

2.5 mm Allen key

Instruction manual

Technical Specifications

Brand: Wimberley

Model: AP-611

Type: Replacement tripod foot

Compatible lens: Sony FE 70-200 F/2.8 GM OSS

Tripod interface: Arca-type compatible

Material: 6061 aluminium

Weight: 65.2 g

Dimensions: 8.64 × 3.81 × 1.91 cm

Threaded connections: 1/4"-20 and 3/8"-16
