Hawke Sunshade Honeycomb Objective 42mm
Hawke Sunshade Honeycomb Objective 42mm | Helps control stray light at the objective
Without a sunshade, light from outside your viewing direction can reach the objective directly. The Hawke Sunshade Honeycomb Objective 42mm is an accessory for reducing that unwanted light, helping keep bright surroundings from interfering with what you’re looking at. Its honeycomb design is intended to block off-axis light while leaving the central viewing path open. It’s suited to someone using an optic with a 42mm objective who wants a simple way to manage stray light in bright conditions. Think of viewing outdoors with sunlight coming in from the side, or working near other bright light sources. This isn’t an adjustment to the optic itself, and it won’t make a dim scene brighter; its job is more specific. If stray light is the distraction, this sunshade gives you a practical way to address it.
Using a sunshade in bright conditions
Pay attention to where the light is coming from. When it’s off to the side and reaching the objective, a honeycomb sunshade can help reduce its effect on your view. The benefit is most relevant when the surrounding light is a problem, rather than when the subject itself is simply dark. It’s a focused accessory for managing incoming stray light, not a substitute for changing your viewing position when a bright source is directly in line with the objective.
Specialist Note
Does the 42mm in the name refer to the objective size? Yes, that’s the key detail to match to your optic. The honeycomb design is there to help screen out light arriving from off-axis, which is useful when you’re viewing outside with bright light coming from one side. I’d consider it for that kind of situation, or near a bright artificial light, where stray illumination can distract from the view. One point to keep in mind: it can’t block a light source that’s directly in your viewing line, so repositioning may still help. For the right 42mm objective, it’s a neatly targeted accessory.
