Rycote 20cm Hot Shoe Extension (2 X 3/8" Male Adaptors)
Rycote 20cm Hot Shoe Extension (2 X 3/8" Male Adaptors) | Add reach to your microphone setup
The 20cm reach is the defining choice: it gives you a way to position a microphone farther from the camera’s hot shoe, rather than mounting it right beside the camera body. Rycote’s extension suits video makers who want to change where their microphone sits while keeping the camera as its mounting point. It’s especially useful when a little extra distance makes your on-camera setup easier to arrange around the way you frame or handle the camera. The two 3/8-inch male adaptors make this a threaded mounting option as well as a hot shoe extension. That makes it worth considering if your setup is built around 3/8-inch connections. It’s a focused accessory, not a general-purpose support arm: the key decision is whether a 20cm extension and those adaptors suit the position and connection your microphone setup needs.
Specialist Note
For videographers filming sit-down interviews or short street pieces, this extension gives you more choice about where the microphone sits above the camera. The 20cm length can help move it away from the camera body, which is useful when you’re arranging a compact rig around your framing. Its two 3/8-inch male adaptors are the detail to pay attention to: they’re useful when your microphone support takes that threaded connection, rather than a different fitting. I’d consider it for a straightforward on-camera setup where that extra reach solves a real positioning problem. Just keep the fixed 20cm length in mind; it isn’t an adjustable extension.
