SmallRig 2837C Universal Shoulder Rig (Compatible w/ Sony VCT-14 Plate)
SmallRig 2837C Universal Shoulder Rig (Compatible w/ Sony VCT-14 Plate) | Extra support for handheld video
The SmallRig 2837C is a shoulder rig with compatibility specifically named for the Sony VCT-14 Plate. That makes it worth considering if your handheld video setup uses that plate and you want extra support for the camera. It suits video makers who prefer to work handheld but find that holding the camera without added support doesn’t suit a particular shot. Think interview footage or following a subject: the rig is intended to support the camera during handheld work, rather than serve as a tripod for a stationary setup. The name “Universal” is part of the product title, but the compatibility stated here is with the Sony VCT-14 Plate. If that matches your setup, this rig has a clear purpose: adding support for handheld video without changing the kind of work you’re doing.
Specialist Note
The SmallRig 2837C is for giving a handheld video camera extra support. I’d consider it for interview footage or for following a subject when you want to keep working handheld; use it as part of that handheld setup, rather than expecting a stationary tripod arrangement. The product is a shoulder rig, so its role is support during handheld work. It’s also stated to be compatible with the Sony VCT-14 Plate, which gives you a specific compatibility point when matching it to your setup. One detail I’d keep in mind: “Universal” doesn’t tell us about every possible plate arrangement, so I’d stick to the named VCT-14 compatibility.
