7Artisans Infinte 105mm T2.1 FullFrame DE-Clicked PL Mount
7Artisans Infinte 105mm T2.1 FullFrame DE-Clicked PL Mount | Controlled close-ups for filmmaking
A fixed cinema setup can be frustrating when you need a tighter, more selective frame without changing the camera system. This 7Artisans lens gives filmmakers a short-telephoto prime for PL-mount setups, with Full Frame coverage and a 23° angle of view. It’s made for video and filmmaking, especially scenes where you want to isolate a face or detail rather than show a broad view. Manual focus puts focusing under your control, which suits planned shots and deliberate focus changes. The de-clicked design also lets you adjust the iris without stepped clicks, useful when exposure needs to change during a take. It’s a dedicated focal length, so it works best when you can plan your camera position and framing around the shot rather than rely on zooming.
Specialist Note
At T2.1, I’d use this for a dialogue close-up when the scene needs a softer background and you want to keep the camera’s framing composed. The 105mm focal length gives you a tighter view, so move the camera back to include the subject comfortably rather than crowding them. For a gradual exposure change during a take, use the de-clicked iris instead of making a sudden stepped adjustment. I’d recommend it to filmmakers building shots around a fixed camera position and manual focus. The trade-off is simple: a 105mm prime won’t reframe a wide scene, so plan for another lens when the shot needs broader coverage.
