Ilford names this paper Galerie Gold Fibre Rag, and this pack contains 25 sheets measuring 420 × 594 mm. It suits photographers and printmakers who already have a larger finished print in mind and want paper sold in a clear, workable quantity. Its strongest known point is that combination of a named paper and a full A2 format. The title doesn’t tell us how the paper renders colour or handles different images, so I wouldn’t promise a particular look based on the name alone. If print size is your first decision, though, the format gives you a concrete place to start.

When you’re planning a print, I’d settle the finished dimensions before choosing the paper. That keeps the decision grounded in the image you want to present, rather than in a paper name or a guess about how much space you’ll need. A larger print also asks you to think about where it will be viewed and displayed; the right size is the one that works for that purpose. This product is a straightforward option to consider when your plan calls for an A2 sheet. The honest limit is that the title gives no further description of the paper’s appearance or printing characteristics, so those shouldn’t be assumed. What it does give you is the format, the paper name and the number of sheets in the pack.

Technical Specifications

Product name: Ilford Galerie Gold Fibre Rag GGFR

Paper size: A2, 420 × 594 mm

Quantity: 25 sheets
