This Ulanzi lens is a smartphone video accessory for filmmakers who want a more cinematic frame for short films, music videos or carefully composed scenes. Its filter mount gives you a way to add a filter to your setup, useful when you want to shape the look of a shot as you film. The 2nd Gen. model brings those two ideas together in a dedicated lens for smartphone video. Anamorphic footage needs to be desqueezed in editing or playback to look correctly proportioned, so it suits someone happy to include that step in their workflow. If you want a wider frame and are comfortable with that extra processing, this lens gives you a specific optical look to build around.

Specialist Note

People making short films, music videos or composed street scenes on a smartphone are the ones I’d point toward this Ulanzi. The 1.33x anamorphic ratio gives you a wider-looking frame, but remember to desqueeze the footage in a workflow that supports it; otherwise the image won’t have its intended proportions. The filter mount is a practical extra when you want to use a filter as part of your filming setup. I’d use it for a deliberate, widescreen sequence rather than casual clips where you want footage ready to share straight away. Its appeal is that distinct anamorphic framing, with an editing step to plan for.

Technical Specifications

Product kind: Smartphone video accessory

Anamorphic ratio: 1.33x

Generation: 2nd Gen.

Filter mount: Yes
