The Zacuto Director's Rig is made to give that work extra support, making it relevant for people who film handheld and want a more supported way to hold the camera. Its purpose is straightforward: it’s a shoulder rig for video work, rather than a tripod for leaving the camera in a fixed position. That makes it worth considering for interviews, event coverage or other situations where you need to keep filming while moving or changing your position. The added support can help make a handheld setup feel more manageable over a take, though it won’t remove the need to hold and operate the camera yourself. If most of your work is locked-off, this isn’t the role it’s designed for. For mobile video makers, it offers a dedicated support option built around handheld use.

Specialist Note

For a one-person interview, I’d consider the Director's Rig when you need to keep the camera handheld rather than leave it on a tripod. As a shoulder rig, it gives you a way to support the camera at the shoulder; that’s the point of this design, not a promise of hands-free operation. Its intended use is handheld video work, so I’d think of it for a take where you need to stay with the subject or adjust your position as you film. It suits video makers who want extra support while remaining mobile. One honest caveat: for a fully static frame, a tripod is the more natural tool.

Technical Specifications

Product type: Shoulder rig

Typical use: Handheld video work needing extra camera support

Category: Tripods > Shoulder Tripod > Rig
